First is rhythm : by rhythm, in the definition of golf swing techniques, we refer to the ability to repeat the same movement on a consistent basis and at a specific speed rate

Second is balance : as for balance in golf swing techniques, it is actually obvious when there is body stability. The perfect balance is achieved when the weight is evenly distributed on the feet.

Should you control these two, you may give great hits even with an imperfect golf swing. How can you tell that a player masters the golf swing techniques?

By watching a professional golf player, you can get the right lesson, when the hit is complete, the finish always shows if there is balance and proves whether one knows the golf swing technique. Hold your position for a count of three. If that is not possible, then you don’t have a firm knowledge of the golf swing techniques and the shots you send may very well be errant. That really doesn’t work too well for your ego, does it?

The most common mistakes that could prevent one from mastering the golf swing techniques is over-swinging. Many golfers who try to get longer shots believe that with a longer arc, the speed of the club will increase. The common mistakes from golf swing technique is to over-swing and send the club-head in a totally wrong swing plane. Therefore, don’t take the club farther back than you can turn your shoulders. The best way to learn the correct golf swing technique is not to force the muscles of the arms into a movement that doesn’t match that of the body.

Daily practice drill will help you to achieve the proper results in terms of golf swing techniques. This should train your muscles for a wider stretch and an improved control to create the arc you want without over-swinging. Moreover. A well-documented like golf e-book, may help you improve the golf swing techniques that you are already using. Finally you’ll be surprised that with proper practice you’ll have the tendency to develop some sort of independence when it comes to the golf swing techniques, and you will feel more in control of your game.

Golf tips are nothing more than the thought you hold in your head as you swing your golf club. Whether the golf tip comes from another player or a golf pro or that really great player you met on your last Las Vegas golf vacation – what matters is how well the golf tip works.

Golf tips are nothing more than the thought you hold in your head as you swing your golf club. Whether the golf tip comes from another player or a golf pro or that really great player you met on your last Las Vegas golf vacation – what matters is how well the golf tip works.

Your mind and body operate in a stranger fashion. It seems that your body does it’s best work when your mind isn’t in the way. By that I mean you aren’t trying to think through your action you just let it happen. The secret is learning how to make this a habit instead of a rare glimpse of greatness.

So the first golf tip is learn how to turn off your mind and allow your body to swing without conscious interference. If you’ve learned how to swing correctly then your body knows how.

A great way to make this happen is to think back to a time when you made a perfect swing. Remember the scene in detail. Then remember how it felt. See it play out in your minds eye and feel the way you felt then. Now swing. This simple exercise really works.

Your golf grip is vitally important to your performance on the greens. Good golf starts with a good grip.

If you watch professional golfers you will see that most of their grips are very similar.

You have to find the best hand position and grip for you It’s something that has to be learned . The most important thing is consistency. Once you find the grip that works for you stick with it.

Only when you can put your hands on the club exactly the same way every time can you really tell if your golf grip is working for you. Learn and practice gripping the golf club the same way every time.

Your second golf tip is learn to grip the club the same every time.

Always select a club that will make you ask yourself “How much do I need to back off of this swing?”. Use the 75% Rule. Make a 3/4 backswing and follow through, focusing on controlling the direction and distance of the shot.

A heavier club will give you the power you need refine your control and aim. Practice with heavier clubs and you will be able to swing with more control because you won’t be putting all your strength into it.

You will find yourself making consistently better contact with the 3/4 swing and probably start hitting the ball farther with your controlled swing than with the full whack.

Golf tip number three is use a heavier club and reduce your swing to 75% – you’ll get better power and greater control.

The actions a player takes from the time he selects a club until he begins the swing.

Private Lesson

Generally speaking, when a PGA Professional gives a lesson to a single pupil.

Punch Shot

A low-flying shot played with an abbreviated backswing and finish. The key to the shot is having the hands slightly ahead of the clubhead at impact, which reduces the effective loft of the club.

Putt

A putt is a very short swing taken with the putter that is intended to move a ball that is on or near the green into the hole.

Putter

The putter is the club in your bag that has a completely flat side and a flat base. Putters come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Putters are intended to roll the ball along the ground and are typically used when on or near the green.

Reading the Green

The entire process involved in judging the break and path of a putt.

Release

The act of freely returning the clubhead squarely to the ball at impact, producing a powerful shot.

Rhythm

The coordination of movement during the golf swing or putting stroke.

Scorecard

The scorecard tells you the length of each hole from each tee box as well as the “par” rating for the hole. Golfers keep track of their score on these cards.

Scramble

To recover from trouble or a popular form of team play in which the team members pick the ball in the best position and everyone plays from that spot.

Setup

The process of addressing the ball, so that the club and body are properly aimed and aligned.

Shaft

The thing that connects the grip and the clubhead. Typically made of metal or graphite.

Shank

When the ball is struck on the hosel of the club, usually sending it shooting off to the right.

Shape

To curve a shot to fit the situation. The word is also used to describe the flight of the ball. (The usual shape of his shots was a fade.)

Short Game

Those shots played on and around the green, including putting, chipping and pitching, and bunker shots.

Sky

A high, short shot caused by the clubhead striking the underside of the ball. Also known as a “pop-up.”

Slice

A ball that curves from left to right to a greater degree than a fade.

Sole

When referring to equipment, it is the bottom of a club. When referring to the swing, it is the point when the sole of the club touches the ground at address.

Square

A term frequently used in golf. It can be used to describe a stance or to describe contact with the ball. It can also refer to the status of a match (they were all-square (tied) at the turn.)

Stance

The position of the feet at address.

Stroke Play

Also known as medal play, it is a form of competition based on the cumulative number of strokes taken, either over one round or several.

Swaying

An exaggerated lateral movement of the body on either the backswing, forward swing, or both, which results in inconsistent shotmaking.

Sweet Spot

Tee Box

The area where players tee off to start a hole.

Tee Time

A “tee time” is the time your group is assigned to begin play. This is the time the group should be on the tee ready to play rather than the time you should arrive at the golf course.

Tempo

The speed of the swing (not necessarily the clubhead speed.)

Texas Wedge

A term describing a shot played with a putter from well off the green. It is a good shot for players who lack confidence in their chipping and pitching, or in extremely windy conditions.

ThreeQuarterShot

Topped Shot A low, bouncing shot caused by the bottom of the club striking the top half of the ball.

Touch

A player’s sense of feel, generally around the greens.

Visualization

A mental image of a swing or shot or even an entire round.

Wedge

A “wedge” is a special type of iron used for hitting the shortest shots in golf. This club usually has an “S”, “W”, “L”, or a number such as 55, 56, or 60 on it. Whiff A complete miss. Also known as an “air ball.”

Yips

A condition, generally believed to be psychological, which causes a player to lose control of his hands and club. In Great Britain, the condition is referred to as the “Twitchies.”

Fat Shot

A description of a shot when the clubhead strikes the turf behind the ball, resulting in poor contact and a shot that comes up well short of the target.

First Swing

The “First Swing” program is a “Program in a Box” lesson program specifically designed to introduce the non-golfer to the game of golf in a non-threatening, non-intimidating way.

Flop Shot

Similar to a flip shot except that it involves a long, slower swing.

Fluffy Lie

A lie in which the ball rests atop the longish grass. This can be a tricky lie because the tendency is to swing the clubhead under the ball, reducing the distance it carries.

Follow-through

That part of the swing that occurs after the ball has been struck.

Fried Egg

The slang term for a buried lie in the sand.

Golf Range

A facility where people can practice their full swings and, in some cases, their short games.

Grain

The direction which the blades of grass grow, which is of primary importance on the greens (particularly Bermuda grass greens) as this can effect how much and in which direction a putt breaks.

Green

The green is that big, closely mown area where the flag and hole are located.

Greenkeeper

An older, outdated term for the course superintendent.

Grip

The placing and positioning of the hands on the club. The various types include the Vardon or overlapping, the interlocking and the 10-finger or baseball grip. (The Vardon grip is the most popular grip today.)

Grip(Equipment)

That part of the golf club where the hands are placed.

Group Lesson

A teaching session in which several pupils work with one or more PGA Professionals. This type of lesson is particularly effective for beginners, especially juniors.

Heel

The part of the clubhead nearest the hosel. A shot hit off the heel is said to be “heeled.”

Hook

A shot that curves sharply from right to left for righthanded players.

Hosel

The part of the club connecting the shaft to the clubhead.

Hybrid Club

This type of club is new in the last few years and is a cross between an iron and a fairway wood. Hybrids usually replace longer irons (3, 4, 5, 6 irons) or fairway woods.

Impact

The moment in the swing when the club strikes the ball.

Iron

Irons are typically the thinnest club heads in your bag. A typical player’s bag may have numerous irons numbered 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and/or P. Clubs with smaller numbers have less loft (point more horizontal, less “up in the air”) and are longer.

1. Know your yardage – When you arrive to your ball it is critical to know your yardage. It is helpful to know not only how far to the flag, but how far is too far or too short. Is there water or a bunker long of the green? Is there a false front on the green (a false front on a green is an area of the putting green that while technically part of the green may be angled or sloped to repel or cause balls to run off the surface) or a hazard short of the green. To improve your golf game, it is imperative to keep in mind that aiming at the flag is not always the best play. If a pin location is not in the center of the green aiming at the center of the green might be the best option.

2. Visualize your shot – Visualizing your shot is critical. If you do not picture the shot you are about to hit before you hit it how will you be able to determine what to attempt to do? Visualize the shot. Think about how high or low you need to hit the shot to hold the green. Make sure to take into account any elevation change from where you are to where the green is.

3. Select the appropriate club – Sounds simple enough. However you need to take several factors into account first. What kind of lie do you have? (is the ground level or uneven? Is your ball in the fairway or in the rough?) To get the best results you need to play within yourself (know your limitations). If you are not having a good day or don’t get to play that often, trying to hit a 3 wood off the fairway with an uneven lie might not be the best idea.

4. Take a practice swing – Feel the shot you are about to attempt to hit and swing.

5. Commit to the shot – Take a deep breath and grip it and rip it!

Usually, this stroke is played on the green with a putter where the ball does not leave the ground. Once on the green, the ball is putted (struck with the eponymous flat-faced club to roll it along the ground) toward the hole until the ball falls into the cup.

The grass of the putting green (more commonly just green) is cut very short so that a ball can roll long distances. The growth direction of the blades of grass affects the ball’s roll and is called the grain of the green. The slope or break of the green also affects the roll of the ball.

The cup is always found within the green and must have a diameter of 108 millimeters (4.25 in) and a depth of at least 10 centimeters (3.94 in). Its position on the green is not fixed and should be changed daily by a greenskeeper in order to prevent excessive wear and damage to the turf.

The cup usually has a flag on a pole positioned in it so that it may be seen from a distance, but not necessarily from the tee; this flag-and-pole combination is called the pin or less commonly the flagstick.

Putting greens are not all of the same quality. Generally, the finest-quality greens are well kept so that a ball will smoothly roll over the closely-mowed grass. Excess water can be removed from a putting green using a machine called a water hog. Golfers describe a green as fast if a light stroke to the ball makes it roll a long distance; conversely, a slow green is one where a stronger stroke is required to roll the ball the required distance.

The exact speed of a green can be found with a stimp meter. By collecting sample measurements, golf courses can be compared in terms of average green speed. It is, however, illegal by the Rules of Golf to test the speed of a green while playing by rolling a ball on it, feeling or rubbing the green.

Many golf courses have a driving range attached and they are also found as stand-alone facilities, especially in urban areas. They are typically run by businesses or sometimes by universities. Distances are usually marked by target greens at regular distances. Driving ranges may have natural grass, similar to a golf course, or players may have to use synthetic mats that resemble real turf. Oftentimes, the grass area is available only for an extra fee, around $5.[citation needed]

Golfers pay for a large bucket of balls (30–200 balls) and hit at their leisure. Often there are golf professionals available to give lessons and instruction. Balls are retrieved by a specialty cart with a brush and roller attachment that automatically picks up balls and a cage that protects the driver from incoming balls.

In urban and suburban areas, large nets protect surrounding people and structures from errant balls. Driving ranges are particularly popular in Japan where golf courses are overcrowded and often very expensive. Many commercial driving ranges are seen in conjunction with other sports-related practice areas such as batting cages or miniature golf.

Main article: Par (score)

A hole is classified by its par; the number of strokes a skilled golfer should require to complete play of the hole. For example, a skilled golfer expects to reach the green on a par-four hole in two strokes (This would be considered a Green in Regulation or GIR): one from the tee (the “drive”) and another, second, stroke to the green (the “approach”); and then roll the ball into the hole in two putts for par. A golf hole is either a par-three, -four or -five, rarely -six, very rarely -seven.

The key factor for classifying the par of a hole is the distance from the tee to the green. A typical par-three hole is less than 250 yards (225 metres) in length, with a par-four hole ranging between 251 and 475 yards (225–434 metres), and a par-five hole being longer than 475 yards (435 metres). Although uncommon par-six and even par-seven holes do exist, and can stretch well over 650 yards. The gradient of the course (uphill or downhill) can also affect the par rating.

If the tee-to-green distance on a hole is predominantly downhill, it will play shorter than its physical length and may be given a lower par rating and the opposite is true for uphill holes. Par ratings are also affected by factors such as the placement of hazards or the shape of the green which can sometimes affect the play of a hole such that it requires an extra stroke to avoid playing into hazards.

Eighteen hole courses may have four par-three, ten par-four, and four par-five holes, though other combinations exist and are not less worthy than courses of par 72. Many major championships are contested on courses playing to a par of 70, 71, or 72. In some countries, courses are classified, in addition to the course’s par, with a course classification describing the play difficulty of a course and may be used to calculate a golfer’s playing handicap for that given course (cf. golf handicap).

Scoring

In every form of play, the goal is to play as few strokes per round as possible. A “hole in one” (or an “ace”) occurs when a golfer sinks his ball into the cup with his first stroke (a drive from the tee). Common scores for a hole have also have specific terms.
